Want to buy a Ford Focus Electric when they become available in about a year? We now know where the cars will be first hit the market:
Ford is logically following the path taken by plug-in vehicle pioneers Nissan and Chevrolet by picking cities for the electric car launch that are well-suited for plug-in vehicles, 'based on several criteria, including commuting patterns, existing hybrid purchase trends, utility company collaboration and local government commitment to electrification.' Mark Fields, Ford's President of the Americas, said a statement that:Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, Phoenix, Portland (OR), Raleigh Durham (NC), Richmond (VA), San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Tucson and Washington, D.C.
So, it sounds like, if you want a Ford plug-in in 2012, maybe you should go out and buy a hybrid today. Or convince your neighbor to do so. Or move. This is the first step in rolling out the Focus Electric. As the country continues to build up its electric vehicle infrastructure and demand for the Focus Electric grows, Ford will continue to evaluate additional markets and consider making this vehicle available in more cities across the country.
